RAUL ANGUIANO Born 1915, Guadalajara, Mexico and died in Mexico City in 2006. When Diego Rivera, Clemente Orozco, David Siqueiros, Frida Kahlo and Rufino Tamayo are mentioned, one must also include Raul Anguiano. Raul was a contemporary of this group and is considered the last of the great Mexican Muralists of Mexico. Raul has been commissioned to do portraits of Mexico's President's and dignitaries while being best known for his paintings of the indigenes people of Mexico. Well known for being a founder of Taller Grafica Popular and being the artist on the expedition to Bonampak in 1949 which included the discovery of the Mayan fresco's. There are two art museums named after him, Guadalajara, Coyoacan, Mexico.. He has painted several murals in Mexico's Ministry of Education and many other locations, as well as in California, Bowers Museum and Mexican Consulate. The most recent was a 70 foot by 13 feet mural about the history of 20th century Mexican art at East Los Angeles College. He has had solo exhibitions all over the world with works in the collections of the Vatican, Smithsonian, Vincent Price Museum, Museum of Modern Art in Mexico and the Bowers in Santa Ana. There are several books published about Raul Anguiano and his work. Anguiano and Anderson worked together for 32 years. They painted on location in Southern California as well as portraits and figure drawings. In Bill Anderson's studio they also did a great deal of work with clay sculpture, pottery and print making.
